Our February Athlete of the Month is Armani!!
Armani is a cheerleader at Cheer Fusion All-Stars, Virginia. At the start of the season, she was diagnosed with a rare form of Schlorosing Papillary Thyroid cancer. Since finding out, she has been very brave while under-going further medical tests and surgeries. With the support of her cheer family and school community, she maintains an A average in the 6th grade and she has still competed in five cheer events where her team finished in the top 3 of their division!
Armani has had two surgeries at Saint Jude Children's Research Center for thyroidectomy, and removal of cancerous tissue in her neck, extensive dosimetry testing at Johns Hopkins Medical Center, and she is scheduled to undergo Radioactive Iodine treatment during the last week of February, 2017. Armani is excited to complete her upcoming treatment in the hope of being cancer free so she can focus hard on her studies, cheer and gymnastics.
In the future, she wants to be an anesthesiologist and compete in the Olympics!
